Spyder

The evolution of the Spyder model is divided into three distinct lines:

GS / RS / ST (2008–2016) – roadster line

Launched in 2007 (as a 2008 model), it was initially designated GS, being renamed two years later to RS (Roadster Sport). It was Can‑Am’s first three‑wheeler. The goal was to create a new type of vehicle positioned between a motorcycle and a roadster, with a focus on performance and stability.

With futuristic styling, the Spyder RS was equipped with the Rotax 998 V‑Twin with 100hp for aggressive riding, paired with either a manual (SM5) or semi‑automatic (SE5) five‑speed transmission. It offered a sporty, forward‑leaning riding position and was not particularly suited for long‑distance touring. Cargo capacity was also limited (12gal(US)44l at the front).

Its Y‑frame chassis incorporated active safety systems borrowed from the automotive industry, such as anti‑lock braking system (ABS), traction control system (TCS), stability control system (SCS), dynamic power steering (DPS), and a parking brake. Braking was handled by a three‑wheel disc system operated by a single right‑foot pedal.
In 2010, the RS‑S (Special) version was introduced, featuring more aggressive styling, cruise control, and upgraded FOX front suspension.

Two years later came the ST and ST‑S (Sport Touring, 2013 model). These were touring‑oriented evolutions of the RS, with an adjustable windscreen, wind deflectors, a sport‑touring seat, and a more upright and comfortable riding position. The ST‑S (Special) added cruise control and additional aesthetic refinements.

Finally, in the following year (2014 model), the ST Limited was added as the top‑of‑the‑line version. It included an audio system, two 9gal(US)35l Givi side cases, an exclusive seat, heated grips, and a Garmin Zumo 660 GPS with Bluetooth.

With the launch of the RT line (2010) and F3 line (2015), production of the RS and ST lines ended in 2016 in favour of these more modern platforms.

RT (2010–present) – premium touring line

Listening to its audience, Can‑Am launched a new line in 2010 dedicated exclusively to touring, which would become the most successful Spyder family.
The Spyder RT (Roadster Touring) was designed for long‑distance travel, focusing on rider and passenger comfort and offering generous cargo capacity (41gal(US)155l).

It initially received the Rotax 998 V‑Twin with 100hp (the same used in the GS/RS/ST line), which was replaced four years later by the new Rotax 1330 ACE with 115hp — more powerful and more efficient — paired with a new six‑speed manual (SM6) or semi‑automatic (SE6) transmission.
Compared to the RS/ST line, it featured more enveloping bodywork, a more upright riding position, a slightly wider front track for improved stability, a passenger backrest and side supports, and integrated side cases and top case.

As with the RS/ST line, RT‑S and RT Limited versions were offered. The RT‑S (Special) added self‑levelling rear air suspension (Air Control Suspension), two additional passenger speakers, fog lights, extra LED lighting, and other aesthetic upgrades.
The top‑tier RT Limited added a Garmin Zumo 660 GPS, an exclusive seat, four semi‑rigid travel bags sized for the available compartments, and a protective cover.

In 2020, on its 10th anniversary, the RT line was redesigned and updated with a new generation. The engine remained the proven Rotax 1330 ACE.

Beyond the updated design, the new RT was significantly refined and focused on luxury touring. It received ergonomic and comfort improvements such as a lower seat, 23in58cm floorboards, a wide electrically adjustable windscreen with memory, full LED lighting, and a new 7.8 inch display with BRP Connect for smartphone integration, GPS navigation, and other apps.

The new generation is available in RT base (without top case), RT Limited, and RT Sea‑to‑Sky (from 2021), the latter being a special edition at the top of the range. The Sea‑to‑Sky offers an exclusive, more comfortable seat with adaptive foam, three travel bags, additional LED lighting, themed emblems, and other premium touches.
Its name comes from Canada’s Sea‑to‑Sky Highway (BC Highway 99), which runs from Vancouver to Whistler, famous for its scenic coastal and mountain views.

The new RT also uses the LinQ (Locked in Quarter Turn) quick‑mount system, created in 2012 for the brand’s ATVs and gradually adopted across BRP divisions.

The RT line is by far the best‑selling of all Spyder models.

F3 (2015–present) – versatile touring line

The F3 line arrived in 2015 to fill the gap between the RS and RT lines.
It offers the most versatile configurations, essentially split into two groups: F3/F3‑S (Sport) as sport‑touring models, and F3‑T/F3 Limited as cruiser‑touring models.

The F3‑T (Touring) adds two integrated side cases (24L and 26L), manually adjustable rear suspension, a wider console with a four‑speaker audio system.
The F3 Limited is the top‑tier version, adding a 60L top case (from 2017), self‑levelling rear suspension, two additional passenger speakers, heated grips, floorboards, and various aesthetic enhancements.

The design is muscular, with semi‑fairing bodywork that exposes the engine block, unlike the other lines.
All versions use the Rotax 1330 ACE engine, with manual transmission available for the F3 and F3‑S, and a six‑speed semi‑automatic for all versions. The manual option was discontinued in 2019.

The F3 adopts a different riding position — lower, cruiser‑style, with legs stretched forward.

It also features the UFit ergonomic adjustment system, allowing easy adaptation of handlebar and footpeg positions.

The base F3 differs from the F3‑S in several ways, which have varied over the years: 10hp less (instead of 115hp), SACHS front suspension (instead of sport FOX or KYB), no cruise control, simpler instrumentation, and a single‑seat configuration (instead of two).

Over the years, special equipment packages called Special Series were offered for the F3‑S and F3 Limited, adding exclusive aesthetic details such as unique colors.

2016 - Can-Am Spyder - Special Series Triple Black

For the F3‑S, the most notable Special Series package was introduced in 2017 with a special Daytona 500 edition in Circuit Yellow Metallic.

From 2019 to 2023, the F3‑S Special Series included unique colors (Liquid Titanium, Gravity Grey, Manta Green) and a 7.8 inch color display, instead of the simpler 7.6 inch monochrome display used on the base F3 and non‑Special F3‑S. The F3‑T and F3 Limited had already been equipped with the 7.8 inch display since 2018.

Also in 2018, a 10th‑anniversary special package was offered for the F3‑S, F3 Limited, and RT Limited, featuring exclusive wheels and trim in Jet Black Metallic and Liquid Gold Satin.
